President of the United States

The President of the United States is the chief executive of the United States. He or she is elected every four years. The President can serve a maximum of two terms. He or she is elected via the electoral college.

The U.S. Senate is part of the United States Congress. Senators serve staggered six year terms and have no term limit. Each state has two senators, and they are elected by popular vote.

House of Representatives of the United States

The House of Representatives is one of two Houses in the United States Congress. Representatives are elected every two years and can also be elected without term limitations. The number of representatives a state has is determined by that state's population. Representatives are elected by popular vote.

California State Governor

The Governor of California is the chief executive of the California state government. He or she serves a four-year term, with a two term maximum if elected after November 1990. The Governor is elected by popular vote.

California State Senate

The California State Senate is the upper house of the California State Legislature. There are 40 senators. Each senator serves terms of four years. They are limited to a maximum of two terms. Like the U.S. Senate, elections are staggered so half of the State Senate is up for election every two years. They are also elected by popular vote. 

California State Assembly

The Assembly is the lower house of the California State Legislature. There are 80 members, a number is determined based on the state population. Elected by popular vote, they may serve up to three two-year terms.

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors

The Board of Supervisors oversees the County of Los Angeles and its operations. There are five non-partisan members on the board. They are elected by their district via popular vote and serve for up to three consecutive four-year terms. 

Los Angeles City Officials

Los Angeles City Officials include the Mayor, City Attorney, Controller, and Councilmembers. They manage and serve Los Angeles. They are all elected by popular vote. The Mayor serves a four-year term and can serve up to two terms. The City Attorney can also serve a maximum of two four-year terms.There are fifteen councilmembers elected for four-year terms. 

Board of Education, Los Angeles Unified School District

The Board of Education oversees the public schools in Los Angeles. There are seven members who are directly elected by voters. 

Board of Trustees, Los Angeles Community College District

The Board of Trustees serves the community colleges in Los Angeles. Board members are elected at large for terms of four years. Elections are held every two years, with three members being chosen at one election and four members at the other. The President and Vice President of the Board of Trustees are elected by the Board for one-year terms at the annual organizational and regular meeting in July. A student member is elected annually--the term is June 1 through May 31 of each year.
