Managing Your MyLO Member List & Members Only Page
This guide will walk you (the webmaster) through managing your League's MyLO member list.
The primary benefit of managing a MyLO member list is to grant access to your Members Only (private) page (located at 'my.lwv.org/your-state/your-league/private') and any other content you mark as private.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The member list on your League's MyLO site is NOT the same as the national LWVUS database roster. There is absolutely no connection or automatic syncing between the two.
Understanding the Members Only Page
Your Members Only page is a predefined, "dynamic view" (an automatically updating page) that was created when your site was set up. For a deeper dive into how these work, check out the MyLO Dynamic Views Guide.
From top to bottom, here is how the Members Only page is structured and what your logged-in members will see:
- Page Title: The title is permanently set to "Members Only Page" and cannot be changed.
- Header Section: Displays your League's header. You can customize this by clicking the "Edit Your League's Headers" link.
- If left uncustomized, the default text will read:
- "This is an aggregated list of all Members Only content. You must be logged in to see this."
- Upcoming Members Only Events: This section automatically pulls and displays private, published, upcoming events.
- If there are no upcoming private & published events, the default text will read:
- "There aren't any upcoming Members Only events posted at this time. Check back for more soon."
- Members Only Content: This final section automatically displays all other types of private, published content (excluding homepage slideshow items and events).
- If there is no published private content posted, the default text will read:
- "There isn't any Members Only content posted at this time. Check back for more soon!"

Visitor Types: Who Can See What?
| MyLO Webmaster (You) | Complete editing access. You see all private content in the menus and can click through to edit or view any page. |
| MyLO Member (Active in your group) | Full member access. They see everything you see as a webmaster (including all private content in the menu) but cannot edit it. |
| MyLO User (Logged in, but not in your group) | Highly restricted. They see only the Members Only page menu link. Clicking it only shows the page header; all other private content remains hidden. |
| General Public (Logged out) | No access. They will not see the menu option to private pages at all, including the Members Only page. |

How to Set Up & Manage Your Member List
As a webmaster, you have three distinct pathways to get your local members into the MyLO system so they can access private content. Choose the method that works best for your League:
Option 1: Manually Add Members (Best for small additions)
You can manually create individual user accounts. This is ideal if you only have a few members to add or if a new member contacts you directly to request access.
- Action: Follow the step-by-step instructions in the MyLO Manual Creation Guide.
Option 2: Request a Bulk Upload (Best for initial setup or large groups)
As a courtesy, the MyLO team offers a one-time bulk upload of your member roster per League. This service can also include a coordinated "welcome" email merge to notify your members.
- Action: To prepare your roster and submit a request, follow the MyLO Bulk Upload Instructions.
Option 3: Allow Self-Registration (Requires webmaster approval)
You can configure your site so that members can register themselves, but still requires webmaster intervention.
- Enable your League's name on the main registration page list.
- When a member registers, they are placed on your list as a Pending member.
- You must manually change their status from Pending to Active to grant them private access.
- Action: Learn how to set up self-registration in the MyLO Self-Registration Guide.
Ongoing Member Maintenance
Once your list is established, you can perform administrative actions to keep your directory secure:
- Remove or Block Members: If a member leaves your League or should no longer have access to internal documents, you can remove or block them from viewing private content.
- Assign Webmaster Roles: Need an extra hand managing the website? You can upgrade standard active members to a webmaster/administrator member role to help you run the site.
Pro-Tips for Webmasters
To keep your private site sections running smoothly, keep these three key tips in mind:
1. How to Restrict Content (Step-by-Step)
Simply adding a member to your list does not automatically make your pages private. You must restrict the content itself.
-
When creating or editing any content (such as a page, article, or event), scroll down to find the Public or Members Only? section.
-
Select the bubble for Private - access only to members to restrict the content to your League's members before you click save.
Read more about how to create private content.
2. "Private" is Not the Same as "Unpublished"
It is easy to mix these two settings up, but they behave very differently:
-
Unpublished (Draft): Only visible to you (the webmaster). Regular members cannot see this content.
-
Private: Hidden from the general public, but fully visible to you and any logged-in, active MyLO members.
3. Check for Pending Registrations Regularly
If you use Option 3 (Self-Registration), you will not get an automatic notification when new members register. New members also cannot access private content until you approve them.
-
Make it a habit to click on Manage Members in your administrator menu.
-
Filter by Pending to quickly find and activate new sign-ups.
