President’s Message

I love the above quote because, for me, it embodies the truth of what we are facing in this tumultuous and uncertain time in our nation’s history.

The League of Women Voters is stepping up to meet the moment and equipping citizens with the tools they need to secure the government they want.

The best way to do this is to educate and empower citizens and nonvoters who could be your neighbors, friends or even family, without alienating neighbors, friends and family.

Ohioans are voting on one US Senate seat and all 15 US House seats at the federal level, half of the Ohio Senate seats and all the Ohio seats at the Statehouse. The governorship, every statehouse office, and two Supreme Court seats are on the ballot. Not to forget the county judicial court seats and local taxes and issues are also to be decided. Most voters do not realize how these offices impact their daily lives.

As you can see, this year is HUGE in Ohio elections with millions of dollars being spent by all parties. There will be endless ads and misinformation floating around. What to believe?

The LWV is the most trusted source of election information for over 105 years and we have plans.

#1. At our annual Members and Friends Celebration, January 24, we lay the foundation of our year of education and activation with a presentation by Rachel Coyle, an Ohio Statehouse expert, to shine a light on what goes on and how we can influence our lawmakers. See below for details. This is the year we can make our electees accountable for the legislation they passed in 2025-26. If you want to attend the presentation without the lunch, you are welcome to come at 10 am and depart before lunch is served.

#2. Defend Democracy – A Teach-in. February 28

This far-reaching event includes In-person training from trusted experts, Insights into voting barriers and challenges, networking & community building opportunities, and very important practical tools to connect with voters along with a free lunch compliments of LWVOhio.

Open to all, whether you are new to civic engagement or are a seasoned clipboard warrior, join us to become equipped with the practical skills and tools needed for effective nonpartisan civic action in 2026 and beyond.

Democracy performs best when voters are actively engaged, have accurate information and access to the ballot.

#3. Our third event is our annual Positions and Priorities meeting on February 14, the anniversary of the founding of the LWV in 1920. This event is primarily for League members, and its purpose is to guide our specific events, actions and activities in our community for the coming year.

The League of Women Voters of Ohio is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy.  Being nonpartisan means

we do not endorse or oppose candidates or parties, ever.

Please join us for one or all of these events as we defend our democracy and our constitutional right to vote.
