Date of Meeting: 02/11/2022

Format: In-person

Meeting Summary:

Prior to certifying candidates for the primary election, concerns about petitions were addressed. Seven candidate petitions had minor mistakes (Cromes/incorrect date of term commencement; Ellliott/last name not entered on one line; Mann/wrote party on incorrect line); Buchanan/missing date; Graham/incorrect date; Stevens and Lyons/missing zip codes). The board decided the mistakes did not interfere with the purpose of the petitions and voted to accept the petitions. The entire list of candidates was approved with the exception of Tom Collins who died after submitting his petition. All issues (10) were approved. The entire list of candidates and issues will be on the BOE website.

Bids for ballots for 2022 elections (two received) were opened and discussed. ES&S was selected. It was noted that the other bidder (IBS) did not state they would comply with the sourcing requirement stated in the request for bids. Typically, the BOE spends in the range of $36-40,000 for ballots.

Chargebacks to those units (e.g. townships, libraries, etc.) that had something on the November ballot were approved. Each unit's share in the election cost, which total $136,754.27 for all units, is deposited in the Election Revenue Fund.

Terrie Nielsen requested that the BOE loan LWV Kent the voter privacy table stands for their November VOTER GIRL event. Terrie will be unable to participate this year as the event is the Saturday after the election and the BOE will still be very busy finishing post-election tasks. Jane Preston Rose was designated to pick up the items at the appropriate time.

The board was notified of those candidates and issue committees that were late in filing, or did not properly file, their post-election campaign finance reports. They have been referred to the Ohio Election Commission.
