Meeting Summary:
The minutes of the October 11, 2022 meeting were approved. Logic and Accuracy testing on the ballot counting machines for the November 8, 2022 General Election was performed to confirm the tabulations were working properly. The machines were found to be working properly.
Absentee Ballot Remakes: Five absentee ballots were brought to the board's attention for determination of the voter's intention with regard to a particular race/issue. In all cases, it was not clear how the voter intended to vote in that race/issue. Those particular items on that ballot will not be included in the count. Examples of ballot problems: voter marked two ovals, one for each candidate in a race which, in effect, would be a vote for both candidates; voter marked a response but in a way that his/her preference could not be determined.
Terrie Nielsen brought a situation concerning political signs to the attention of the board members, for their information The Kent American Legion has a policy that no political signs may be posted on their private property. Their building is a multi-precinct voting location. In the past candidates have posted signs on their property (100' from the polls as required) which is against the legion's policy. To help avoid this problem in the future, signs will be posted: "Private Property: No Political Signs". Board members were asked to pass this information on to candidates in the hope signs will not be posted on the legion's property during future elections.
The board voted to permit the polls to be opened at 6:30 a.m. on November 8, 2022.
The board recessed until election day.
