Convention is a biennial event that serves as LWVUS's bylaws-prescribed business meeting as well as an opportunity for League members to gather for training and networking.
When is Convention?
The 2022 Convention will take place from June 23 to June 26. The agenda can be viewed here. Programming will start midday on Thursday, plenary will start on Friday, and Convention will wrap up by noon on Sunday.
Where is Convention?
The 2022 Convention will be LWVUS's first hybrid Convention. An in-person event will take place at the Sheraton Downtown Denver in Denver, CO, and an integrated virtual event will take place at the same time.
What happens at Convention?
LWVUS's bylaws require delegates to meet every two years and vote on a variety of items, including a LWVUS biennial budget, the next LWVUS Board of Directors and Nominating Committee, any bylaw amendments that have been put forth, and the organization’s program or focus of work for the next biennium.
Additionally, we host a variety of networking events for League members to meet and mingle in informal settings. There are also training opportunities in large and small settings, as well as League-led caucuses.
There is something for everyone at Convention, from new members of local Leagues to long-standing state League leaders and everyone in between.
Who are the Convention delegates?
Convention delegates are the members of the LWVUS board and representatives from state and local Leagues and Inter-League Organizations (ILOs). Each local and state League and ILO is allotted delegates based on their League type and size. The delegate count formula can be found here.
Can I attend Convention and not be a delegate?
Registration for convention delegates is not closed.
LWV Kent will be looking for members to attend. Interested? Email the board at lwvkent [at] gmail.com.
What will be “hybrid” about the Convention?
Plenary will be livestreamed, and delegates can attend in-person or virtually with the ability to debate and vote. Current plans provide for as many in-person training sessions and caucuses as possible to be livestreamed to an interactive virtual audience. In-person and virtual attendees will be offered a variety of networking opportunities.
How will the virtual part of Convention happen?
Attendees will be able to access and participate in the plenary and other trainings and caucuses offered on our Convention website.
What is the cost of Convention and what does it include?
Registration types and costs can be viewed here.
Are there other costs associated with Convention?
Those attending the in-person event in Denver are responsible for all travel costs associated with the trip, as well as meals. In-person attendees are also responsible for their hotel room, and LWVUS has arranged a discounted rate of $209.00 per night at the Sheraton Downton Denver. In order to utilize the discount, attendees must reserve rooms through this link.
