Public Tax Dollars Subsidizing Private Schools:  Understanding Ohio's Current School Voucher Programs & the Impact of Proposed "Backpack Bills"

The League of Women Voters of Bowling Green invites you to a public forum on the impact of Ohio’s school voucher programs on public schools. The forum will include a brief presentation and panel discussion with local superintendents (Tom Hosler, Perrysburg Schools and Matt Geha, Springfield Schools) and treasurers (Adam Koch, Sylvania Schools and Cathy Schuller, Bowling Green City Schools). The discussion will be facilitated by BGSU Teaching Professor, Todd Cramer.

Ohio’s League of Women Voters (LWV) is a non-partisan group that does not endorse any candidate or political party. After careful study and consideration, LWV does take a position on certain public issues.  The LWV’s statement on Primary and Secondary Education states: LWV support the use of public funds only for public schools. Support an elected State Board of Education whose responsibility is policy making/planning. Support state education standards as a method of attaining a high- quality education.  Support state funding for education that guarantees a realistic and equitable level of per- pupil expenditures, and support local school districts assuming a reasonable share of the financial burden.
