Roberta DeBoer Durham will speak about foster kids you age out of the foster care system at age 18.  Her organization, Better Together Toledo (BTT), aims to help these young adults who are often suddenly without the support of either institutions or family to move forward toward a happy, productive adulthood.

BTT brings together groups of volunteers who commit to meeting weekly over dinner with one young foster care "alum" for one year, during which time the group offers socio-emotional connection, assistance, guidance, and most important, a sense of belonging and acceptance.  Come to this program and hear how this process works.

BTT is Ms. Durham's retirement career, following 25+ years as a journalist, during which time she often wrote about childhood welfare and juvenile justice issues.  She retired in 2009 as a columnist from The Blade.  (Presented by LWV Toledo/Lucas County.)
