The League of Women Voters of Maine and the Maine Unitarian Universalist State Advocacy Network (MUUSAN) are cosponsoring a webinar on Zoom to learn more about how National Popular Vote works, dispel common myths, and look at the National Popular Vote bill, LD 1578, that is being considered this year in the Maine Legislature.
Do you agree with the following statements?
- The presidential candidate with the most votes in all 50 states should win.
- Presidential candidates should have to campaign in all 50 states.
- Every vote in every state should be equal.
- Increasing voter participation is a good thing for democracy.
The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact guarantees that the candidate who wins the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia becomes the President. It's nonpartisan. NPV favors voters, not parties, land, geography, factions, or states. NPV works within the constitution and does not change or abolish the Electoral College.
