Karl Seckel, Director - District 4, Municipal Water District of Orange County
by Shirley Nixon
Did you know that 97% of the earth’s water is too salty to drink, with the remaining 2% unavailable because it’s locked in polar ice caps or glaciers; and that over 50% of Southern California’s water supplies are imported from outside the region? These are just two of the fascinating facts discussed at the presentation on water management at the 4/16/2025 Lunch with the League.
Speaker Karl Seckel, Division Four Director of the Metropolitan Water District of Orange County, has not only provided copies of his slide presentation for us to post, he has generously compiled a special list with active links to resources for additional reading. A map of California’s water infrastructure plus definitions of water terms prepared by Shirley Nixon of LWVOC’s Climate Interest Group was distributed at the luncheon and is also included among the posted materials.
