Climate Interest Group
Mission:
The mission of the Climate Interest Group (CIG) is to raise awareness among Group members regarding climate and environmental issues so that they can inform fellow League and community members, and advocate for public action to address the impacts of climate change.
How We Accomplish Our Mission:
The group meets monthly to discuss issues relating to climate change and the environment and invites speakers to for special presentations regarding climate action plans, reduction of fossil fuels, coastal erosion, community choice energy, water management, air quality management, waste disposal and processing, local appliance transition and electrification programs, electric vehicles and climate science history.
The CIG encourages members to monitor progress on local climate action plans and climate related issues in their communities and make recommendations for advocacy. CIG members share news regarding climate related events and political action in LWV Orange Coast cities. The LWV OC Observer Team is also instrumental in advising the CIG of action taken and planned by Orange Coast area city councils and the County Board of Supervisors.
The CIG goals for 2026-27 are to continue informing and engaging members regarding local events and political action relating to climate change and to recommend advocacy. Special presentations will include speakers and programs relating to climate science, environmental protection, and political advocacy.

- Recommend speakers fluent with climate issues.
