It’s a complicated time! Just so you’ll know – COAST is definitely NOT having a summer break!

Here is a brief overview of some of the work being done:

 Combatting Disinformation/Misinformation in the Public Square:

  • The committee working on how we can learn to identify - and possibly counter - misinformation and disinformation in the public square (online, in print, and in conversations with others) has created an amazing presentation and list of resources.
  • It was presented to Coast members on July 20, 2022 and will be available for other groups.
  • If you weren't there, watch for more information on seeing the recording and for promoting presentations to other groups to which you belong.

 Coast Speaker Events:

  • This committee is finding new ways and places for "Lunch with League"-type events as Covid remains an issue.
  • They are considering holding meetings in various locations throughout the county (and possibly at varying times), both to encourage wider participation by our members, and when possible, the public.

 Our Housing Action Team (HAT) and the Climate Change Task Force continue meeting and working, as do our North and South Book Clubs and Clip and Come in South County.

Time to Pay Your Dues – or to Consider Becoming a Member:

  • Our Membership Director Anne Stone and volunteers are working to solicit membership renewals ASAP.
  • If by chance you have forgotten to renew, you can renew online - every page on our website has a "Donate or Join" button - which also works for renewals.
  • If you have decided to join us, the same route works!

And not to be forgotten:

  • Observers continue observing, reporting and working with our committees and task forces on matters of interest in our cities. Interested in becoming an Observer? Contact the Observer Corps at observer.corps [at] lwvorangecoast.org
  • Petti Van Rekom and the Voter's Edge team finished out the June primary (102 candidates) - and are revving up for fall, when we will have more than 300 candidates!
  • Our Pros and Cons volunteers have started their work.
  • And so on . . . !

So Please:

  • Check the website regularly;
  • Watch for eBlasts;
  • Email me and other Coast Leaders with news, concerns, or questions, or if you need help with a League issue!
  • And remember that tough times call for tough folks to get into action!
