Choice

LWV-PA is participating in the Pasadena Caravan for Choice, Saturday, October 2, at 9:30 a.m. This is an opportunity for those who wish to actively express support for freedom of choice to join a COVID-19-safe local group demonstration. Participants will be provided with "Freedom to Vote, Freedom to Choose" car magnets; to request one, email office [at] lwv-pa.org. We will email details on picking one up at our office at 65 S. Grand Avenue, Pasadena, on the morning of the Caravan.

Why the urgency? Read this post from organizer Stef Lynch of Planned Parenthood Pasadena:

Friends, activists, partners, and supporters,

I’ve seen abortion access being slowly stripped away in Texas for years. I’ve heard stories of people driving hundreds of miles to get the health care services they need. And then just a few weeks ago, we saw S.B. 8, a vicious Texas law that nearly restricts all abortion access, go into effect. We’re at a crucial moment in the movement for reproductive rights and for ensuring abortion is safe and accessible for everyone.

My sadness and feelings of futility have fueled me these last few weeks, as we take on the intense and speedy work of showing up in Pasadena for the Women’s March. I hope you all will be able to join me at our Caravan for Choice on Saturday, October 2nd at 9:30 a.m. in partnership with so many amazing organizations: SMART, NAACP, YWCA, POP, NWPC–Pasadena and SGV chapters, ACLU–Pasadena chapter, Plan C, Black Women for Wellness, Indivisible, Swing Left, Active SGV, SGV LGBTQ Center, Rooted in Resistance, Peace over Violence, Day One, All Saints Church, Swing Left–SGV, Glendora HS Women's Wellness, and us here at Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley. We’ll be parading through the streets of Pasadena in cars, bikes, or whatever device gets you places faster than 15 mph. This is a great alternative for folks feeling COVID-unsafe about the large downtown L.A. march.

RSVP at bit.ly/pasadenacaravan. Please share with friends, post on your socials and circulate widely. We need to capture the attention of the world once again and demand we won’t, we can’t, go back. And it feels good to show up and collectively be empowered to do something. Hope you will join in wherever you are on October 2nd!

—Stef Lynch, Community Organizer, Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley
