The following Proclamation was presented to LWV Solano County
on March 15, 2022, by the City of Benicia

Rami Muth, our Vice President accepted the Proclamation on our League's behalf with these remarks:

The League of Women Voters recently celebrated its 102nd birthday.  Since its inception, the League has been dedicated to the cause of gender equality and ensuring that the right to vote was safe and secure for all eligible voters.  The right of the franchise should never be taken for granted.  We believe in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy. That’s been our vision since 1920 when the League of Women Voters was founded by leaders of the women’s suffrage movement. For 102 years we have been a nonpartisan, activist, grassroots organization that believes voters should play a critical role in democracy.  That was true then and has never been more true than today.  Today, democracy demands that people of goodwill step forward to continue this fight.

Stephanie Doute is the Executive Director of the LWV California. She shared her views on this important anniversary.  “And here we are, 102 years later; fighting different, but painfully similar battles for voting rights - for equity.  For the rights and recognition of all people to have space to use their voice and the power to have their full humanity recognized.  We have made progress, no doubt.” Over a century later, the fight continues and we, the League of Women Voters Solano County, thank you for being allies in this work so that together we can continue to make powerful changes for ourselves, for our children, and for the generations to follow.
