LWVSC Democracy Matters First Civics Creative Project Contest

Golden Hills Community School
By Alice Fried

This year, middle and high school students at Golden Hills Community School participated in the first Democracy Matters Civics Creative Contest. Established to highlight how these students, our future voters and leaders, value learning not only about the specifics of the local government process and voting, but also as an opportunity to express in art and verbal presentation the critical thinking, active listening, and communication skills offered to them in our Solano League’s Democracy Matters project-based, hands-on civics learning activities.

Thanks to all the elected officials who engaged with the students over the two-week session. Scroll down to view a photo gallery of our student participants, their posters, our judges, the wonderful Golden Hills staff, and a detailed lesson plan.

Your engagement in Democracy Matters is pivotal to providing these students with a fundamental understanding of how democracy works and what they must do to make it work.

Thanks to our Solano League members for providing the $100 first place and $50 second place prizes to the winners.
