Let's Talk Banned Books

The League of Women Voters Solano County is introducing a new series of Zoom sessions discussing the Ali Velshi MSNBC podcast series “Banned Book Club”.

Join with other local residents to talk about the impact books have had in their lives.

The podcasts run on three consecutive Tuesdays, April 2, 9 and 16, with two sessions each day:

* Lunch & Learn 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

* Evening 6:30 pm-8:00 pm

You will hear comments from local participants Kelli Mahoney, Genea Brice, Luis Herrera, David McCallum, and Rami Muth. These Solano County voices identify the many reasons why the freedom to read is so important... and the threat book banning can present to our communities and to our democracy.

Zoom Discussion Series Details

The  Zoom discussion series will start on Tuesday, April 2. The discussion led by LVWSC Voter Services Chair Craig Paterson  will focus on the podcasts by Ali Velshi, "Velshi Banned Book Club."  This discussion series is open to the public.

Sessions will be held on  April 2, 9, and 16 in the midday and in the evening. You can attend either session on each day, and can change which to attend each date (for example, go to midday on April 2, evening on April 9).

"Velshi Banned Book Club" podcasts cover a range of books and book topics including:

* "The Handmaid's Tale"

* "Beloved" and other black literature

* Black teens in American literature

* LGBTQ+ literature

* School shootings

* Latino identity

* U.S. history reframing
