LWV Extends Deadline for Democracy Works Award Nominations

Public Statement
Date of Release or Mention:
Tuesday, February 15, 2022

The Woodland League of Women Voters has extended the deadline to accept nominations for the “Democracy Works” award through March 8, 2022, which allows additional time to submit a nomination. This award, begun in 2006, was given annually until the pandemic interfered in 2020. This is the first time in two years that the award could be presented to honor an individual, business or organization in the community that promotes the spirit of democracy. Residents in Woodland and the adjacent rural communities are encouraged to nominate those who, by their positive actions, have furthered the democratic process in tangible ways, thus keeping democracy working for all.

Community members can submit a nomination for an individual, business or organization who exhibits and promotes the spirit of democracy. The concept of democracy is prevalent in our daily lives; in the people we encounter, the places we frequent, the meetings we attend. Positive actions are all around each of us and the League wishes to honor those actions with its Democracy Works Award.

This is a unique award and to properly honor the awardee, the League is planning an in-person event. Originally the award presentation was part of the League hosted “State of the Community Luncheon” but, that event was moved to a virtual platform because of continued safety restrictions. The Democracy Works Award presentation is now planned for early spring and, as noted, nominations will be accepted until March 8, 2022.

Nominations are sought from residents of Woodland and the surrounding rural communities. All nominations submitted should describe why you think a particular person, business or organization exemplifies democracy in action in our community.

Nomination forms are available on the League website: my.lwv.org/california/woodland or can be requested by contacting the League via email at: woodlandleaguenews [at] gmail.com (). Completed forms should be mailed to LWV Woodland, Attn: Democracy Works Award, P.O. Box 2463, Woodland, Ca 95776 or emailed to: woodlandleaguenews [at] gmail.com (). Please submit forms by March 8, 2022.
