The Woodland League’s “Democracy Works” committee is seeking nominations for this award given annually to honor an individual, business or organization in the community that promotes the spirit of democracy in Woodland and the adjacent rural communities. The League seeks nominees who, by their positive actions, have furthered the democratic process in tangible ways, thus keeping democracy working for all residents.
Community members can submit a nomination for an individual, business or organization who exhibits and promotes the spirit of democracy which is defined as “a form of government where a constitution guarantees basic personal and political rights, fair and free elections and an independent court of law.”
As this is a unique award the League plans an in-person event to honor the recipient. Originally the Award Presentation was planned as part of the League hosted “State of the Community Luncheon” on February 24th but, unfortunately with current health restrictions, that event will be held virtually. The Democracy Works Award presentation is now planned for early spring and nominations will be accepted until February 28, 2022.
Nominations are sought from residents of Woodland and the surrounding rural communities. All nominations submitted should describe why you think a specific person, business or organization exemplifies democracy in action in our community.
