The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice, ACLU Delaware, and the League of Women Voters of Delaware have organized a public forum to learn about Delaware's broken probation system directly from individuals with lived experiences.  The forum will be held on January 25th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Lewes Public Library.

This conversation will provide insight into the challenges people on probation face after incarceration and the solutions needed to fix Delaware's broken probation system, including SB 4 — legislation that aims to eliminate systemic barriers that prevent those recently released from prison from successfully rejoining society.  Delaware’s probation system is driving incarceration rates, and not by new crimes, but minor probation violations. Instead of focusing on the rehabilitation and support of returning citizens, it works more like a revolving prison door for those caught in a broken system.

State Sen. Marie Pinkney, Rep. Kerri Evelyn Harris, and Rep. Stell Parker Shelby have confirmed participation on the panel. Other legislators and public officials are invited and expected to attend.
