The League of Women Voters of Sussex County held their annual meeting on May 18th at the Lewes Public Library and on Zoom.  Thirty members attended, exceeding requirements for a quorum.

An express purpose of the meeting was for members to vote on our program for the upcoming year. In doing so, the membership voted unanimously to approve the following two overarching program goals for the 2022-23 program year that begins on July 1, 2022:

  1. We the members of the League of Women Voters of Sussex County, Delaware, renew and affirm our support for the 2022-2024 National League of Women Voters (LWVUS) “Campaign for Making Democracy Work®” with measurable outcomes and action steps.
  2. We the members of the League of Women Voters of Sussex County, Delaware, commit ourselves to building and strengthening our League through specific action steps with measurable outcomes.

The first part of the annual meeting was comprised of reports on committee activities in the past year; an overview of the “State of the League,” presented by Pat Newcomb of the Membership Committee; and the official vote on the two recommendations for our FY 2022-23 Program.

During the second part of the meeting, attendees split up into discussion groups to elicit feedback on League performance in the past year and to develop ideas for putting the 2022-23 Program into action. The results of the discussion are summarized below.

The real message of the meeting: LWVSCDE is our members! The meeting concluded with a call on the talents and expertise of our diverse members to turn the good ideas into action. Committee meetings, forums, working groups, and social events are already being planned, including a Fun Lunch on June 14 with LWVSCDE member Jack Young as a guest speaker. Also under consideration are a mentorship program to help members learn more about how the League operates, and a late summer meeting to address organizational issues.

Further details of the meeting can be found in the meeting minutes, posted PDF icon here on the website. A draft Annual Report consolidating committee reports and the State of the League presentation will be posted soon. The report will be finalized at the end of the FY 2021-22, when final data for the Treasurer’s Report is available.

Ideas for Achieving LWVSCDE FY2022 Program Goals

Program Goal 1 – Support LWVUS Campaign for Making Democracy Work

Program Goal 2 – Build and Strengthen LWVSCDE

Execute LWVSCDE’s Core Mission:
