Ticket Sales Directly Benefit the Sussex LWV

This election year presents unprecedented challenges to our democratic system.
Help the Sussex LWV meet those challenges, empower voters, and defend democracy.

This evening of film shines a spotlight on American Suffragists' efforts to expand the voting franchise, the ongoing fight to protect voting rights for all, and the story of one elected representative who voted his conscience over his career.

Educating voters and getting out the vote can be expensive. Beyond printing brochures, postcards, and posters to educate and inform Sussex voters, the League must rent space for the candidate forums we present. And the Sussex LWV retains only $17 of our $60 annual dues; the rest goes to LWVUS and LWV of Delaware.

This evening of film includes:
6 pm – Reception and raffle of fun items and gift baskets.
7 pm – Four short documentary films:

  • Ida B Wells - The Light of Truth
  • Inez Milholland: Forward into Light
  • Suppressed and Sabotages: The Fight to Vote
  • Deciding Vote

8:30 – Q & A with:

  • Helen Chamberlin, executive director of RBFS, a cable industry veteran with more than 30 years’ experience in high-profile film and other performance art industry productions. Former president of the National Woman’s Party and the Belmont Paul Women’s Center, and former president of Women in Cable Telecommunications, Washington/Baltimore Chapter.
  • Hon. Colleen C. Davis, Delaware State Treasurer since November 2018. Committed to helping Delaware improve its quality of life. Thought leader in the intersection of finance and environmental, social, and governance factors. A leader in disaster relief, emergency medicine, medical-surgical practices, advanced pediatric and cardiac life support, and neurosurgery. Has volunteered locally, nationally, and internationally. Helped coordinate the “Masked Superhero Project” for the Southern Sussex Rotary Club.
  • Dr. Jane Gruenebaum, LWVSCDE member and founding member and president of the Sussex Preservation Coalition – a coalition of community, state, and national groups focused on promoting sustainability and resiliency and on protecting the natural environment in Sussex County. Served as executive director of the national League of Women Voters, senior staff at the Brookings Institution, and executive director of the Nuclear Freeze Movement. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the women’s movements in the 19th and 20th centuries.
