Sunshine is a League Priority.
The League of Women Voters has been an active champion of openness in government throughout its history. The organization's principles include the requisite that "government bodies protect the citizen's right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings and making public records accessible." Over the years, the League has supported various federal, state and local initiatives to expand open government requirements and has fought against proposals aimed at limiting access to public information.
In that spirit, League trains volunteer "watchdogs" to observe meetings of governmental bodies, report factually about the actions taken and confirm the open meetings act requirements are followed. From these observations, the local League may take action to educate the public further about an issue, request changes in the process to make the proceedings more transparent or take other actions in keeping with League's non-partisan mission and established League positions.
These reports are not official minutes and do not contain an exact recording of all that occurred during a particular meeting. If questions arise regarding a report, please direct them to the President of LWV of Downers Grove, Woodridge, and Lisle at president [at] lwvdgwl.org.
Because meetings are now all virtual, information links are being provided to meetings and information about board/trustee members.
