Who Are The Members?
Membership in the League of Women Voters, the most respected and effective grassroots organization in the country, is open to men and women of all ages.
Our members make a visible difference by serving as community leaders using their experience to create positive, lasting change in our communities.
Why Should I Join?
Through participation in League projects, you will:
- contribute valuable service to the community
- gain knowledge and experience through the study and discussion of timely and important topics
- discover new interests, develop new skills and learn about crucial issues in your community
- make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships as you meet others in the League who share your interests
How Much Time Does It Take?
It's up to you! Many members choose to support the League only with their annual dues. Your membership alone gives us the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change. We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns; you may choose to become involved in one or more of them by actively participating in a group study, or listening to a panel of experts at a meeting or just reading about them in one of our publications.
What Do I Get?
You become a member of your local league as well as a member of the LWVUS, the LWVIL, and the LWV of Cook County. You will receive emailed links to their publications along with the newsletter from the La Grange Area League of Women Voters. You will have the knowledge that you are adding your voice to a powerful force of members from all 50 states, Washington DC and the Virgin Islands.
What Does It Cost?
As of February 3, 2025, Membership options have changed as follows:

Individuals will be encouraged to pay a standard rate of $75. There will be higher tiers for those who choose to pay more ($150, $250, $500) and there will also be a pay-what-you-can option, where members can choose their own dues amount, at a minimum of $20.

There will no longer be a household membership designation, though members can still be grouped into households for data purposes and members can still join on behalf of other members. A member joining from the same household as an existing member can choose to pay half of the recommended amount under the pay-what-you-can model.

There will no longer be a student membership designation. Students are welcome to pay what they can, at a minimum of $20.
Are My Dues Tax-Deductible?
The LWVLGA is a 501(c)(3), so that portion of your membership dues will be tax-deductible. The dues will be split 33% to LWVUS, 47% to LWVIL, and 20% to LWVLGA. A receipt will be sent to joining/renewing members that will indicate the amount that is tax-deductible, whether you pay online or by check.
