WASHINGTON  — The League of Women Voters of the United States partnered with the Broadway musical Suffs in recognition of Women’s Equality Day, the day commemorating the adoption of the nineteenth amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920, which gave some women the right to vote. 

PHOENIX, AZ — The League of Women Voters of the United States, League of Women Voters of Arizona, Secure Families Initiative, and Modern Military Association of America filed an amicus brief this week in Mi Familia Vota v. Fontes, a case before the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

The Tony Award-winning musical Suffs depicts heroes of the suffrage movement — including LWV founder Carrie Chapman Catt — fighting for women’s right to vote in the early twentieth century. 

We discuss the ways this musical relates to women's activism from the early twentieth century to today.
