On February 14, 2020, the League of Women Voters of Illinois (LWVIL) will celebrate 100 years as a nonpartisan grassroots civic organization. Founded out of the women’s suffrage movement, the League has evolved to fight to educate all people on their civic duties and advocate for government and social reform legislation.
This centennial anniversary will be celebrated at the Congress Plaza Hotel, in the very room (Gold Room) the League was founded in 1920. Attendees will hear remarks from legislators and community influencers; enjoy a presentation of a state and city proclamation marking the significance of this date; and cut a celebratory birthday cake.
The League of Women Voters (LWV US) is the national parent to local Leagues in all 50 states and more than 700 communities, but the League of Women Voters of Illinois (LWVIL) serves as its unofficial flagship, since the League was founded here in Illinois.
This event is free and open to the public.
