The Future of Wastewater Treatment in Falmouth

The Future of Wastewater Treatment in Falmouth

Location

Hermann Room, Falmouth Public Library

Thursday, November 17, 2022 - 7:00pm

The panel includes: Eric Turkington, former representative to the Massachusess legislature; Brian Baumgaertel, alternative treatment specialist; Scott McGann, health agent for the town of Falmouth; and Andrew Gottlieb, executive director of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC).

Water quality in our ponds and estuaries is negatively impacted by conventional septic systems. The panel will discuss possible, more effective, realistic options for private homeowners. Falmouth will be looking at more sewering in the future, as the capacity of the existing treatment plant has fixed permiting limits. Some obvious options seem to include a second treatment plant, a deep water outfall tunnel, expanding the existing plant and permitted discharge limit, a cap on development, and alternative sewage treatment systems.
