Falmouth Academy is proud to host the opening event of this year’s Black History Month series, Tales of Transatlantic Freedom, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 10:50 AM in the Simon Center for the Arts.
This original work features internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Andrea Baker, composer Howard Moody, and special guest artist Newman Taylor Baker. Together, they blend vocals, piano, viola, and even a washboard to explore the labor, resilience, and contributions of the African Diaspora through the music of folk, blues, jazz, and opera.
This event, co-sponsored by the Woods Hole Diversity Initiative, is free and open to the public. Guests are asked to sign in at the front desk.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITMENT STATEMENT
Falmouth Academy is committed to continued growth in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We intentionally strive to be a community of dedicated learners who understand their roles and responsibilities as local and global citizens confronting the challenges of our times. We call all members of our community to actively engage in their own learning regarding biases and social injustices specific to ethnicity, gender identity and expression, racism, family composition, able-bodiedness, learning styles, religion, sexuality, age, and socio-economic status. In this pursuit, we continuously aim to create a safe and inclusive community where each member is seen, respected, and empowered to contribute.
