This year our annual membership meeting will be held the evening of Tuesday, May 20th, at the Michigan Firehouse Museum in Ypsilanti, which promises to be a unique experience. 

Our keynote speaker will be Jocelyn Benson, MI Secretary of State

Seating will be limited, so be sure to RSVP to save your spot.  Members may bring one guest but must include the guest's name in their RSVP to help anticipate attendance.

  • 5:30 pm - Social Hour (Museum exhibits open on all floors, and LWV-WC membership/volunteer information)
  • 6:45 pm -  Business Meeting - leadership election, approval of budget, program, and bylaws, plus recognitions
  • 7:30 pm - Speaker Jocelyn Benson, Michigan Secretary of State

Jocelyn Benson   Ms Benson is known widely for her leadership in ensuring elections are secure and accessible. For her work overseeing Michigan’s elections, Benson has earned national recognition, including the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award and the Presidential Citizens Medal. She implemented new voting rights for eligible Michiganders, including the right to vote absentee, and oversaw more than 250 audits, all affirming the election’s integrity and accuracy.

Benson has also transformed customer service at the Secretary of State’s office. She doubled the number of online services, installed more than 160 self-service stations statewide, and has alleviated the hours-long lines at offices.

A graduate of Harvard Law School and expert on civil rights law, education law and election law, Benson served as dean of Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. She continues to serve as vice chair of the advisory board for the Levin Center at Wayne Law. In 2015, she was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame.
