The League Observer Corps monitors local government bodies for information of importance to the League and to our communities. Observing is a vital aspect of our civic engagement mission.

Position

Township government should be accessible, transparent, and fiscally sound.

Position

The League of Women Voters of Connecticut urges all political parties to make their process more accessible to the public.

Position

The League of Women Voters of Connecticut believes that a free and open Internet is increasingly important to the protection of individual liberties – freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of association – guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and by the Connecticut Constitution.

The League of Women Voters of Metro St. Louis has adopted a number of local positions describing our interests in good government in our region.  These emphasize high ethical standards, transparency, and ample public participation.

In terms of ethics, we have supported written and enforceable ethical standards for elected officials and lobbyists, limits on campaign contributions, and other actions that limit the power of moneyed interests.

Action Alerts

SB 10 and SB 4 will improve Connecticut’s air quality by requiring cleaner energy generation and expanding the use of electric vehicles. Cleaner air improves human health, protects the environment, and contributes to the reversal of climate change. What you can do: Email or call the Senate Leadership, Senators Looney and Duff today and ask them to bring the bills to the floor for a vote. There are fewer than 20 days left to the legislative session.

Position

A Master Plan is essential and should have citizen participation with clearly designed goals and areas with delimited zoning.
Blue outline of State of Florida with callout with stethoscope over Alachua County
News

As our nation rapidly approaches 1 million recorded deaths due to COVID-19, our Florida government officials loudly proclaim that masks and vaccinations are unnecessary. Public health has become as taboo of a subject as climate change. It is clear who suffers the most from ignorance of both: ethnic minorities and our underprivileged low-income neighbors.

The health of Alachua County depends not only on the fitness of its well-off residents. It must concern us all. Deficits and inequities in health cost everyone due to stresses on our health care workers and hospitals, increased taxes, insurance costs and reduced productivity that result. We can do better.
