Membership dues are split between the US, Michigan and LWVBCC Leagues. Dues are paid annually, renewable on your Join Date anniversary each year.

Joining the League is a great way to play an active role in your community and in our democracy! Everyone is welcome - membership in the League of Women Voters is open to anyone 16 years or older.

When you join the League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley, you are also joining the national, state and local Leagues. Thirty-three percent of your dues payment will go to LWVUS, forty-seven percent will go to LWV California, and twenty percent will go to LWVDV.

After making your payment, please return to our site to fill out a Member Interest Survey to help us match your interests to our activities!

Membership Dues:

Individual members: $75 per year is the recommended amount, or pay what you can ($20 minimum).
You can add a second member ($150 total for both recommended, $40 for both minimum), but they each will need to provide a unique email address.
Life members: In appreciation of their dedication to democracy, Life Members (members for more than 50 years) are exempt from membership dues.

Making Dues Payments

The preferred payment option is a direct bank transfer (ACH transfer), which minimizes fees. You’ll need your financial institution's routing number and your account number.
You also have the option to pay by credit or debit card.
If you are not comfortable making payments online, see Pay Dues by Check for instructions.
You will receive an online confirmation and an email receipt for your payment.
Note: ONLY the LWVDV portion of your membership dues will be tax-deductible.
The receipt will show the 20% of your dues going to LWVDV and can serve as your tax receipt.
Your membership dues payment will show up as three transactions on your account — one each to LWVDV, LWVC, and LWVUS. You’ll be a member of all three!
Keep things simple by automatically renewing each year! Just select auto-renewal when you are paying your dues.

Note: In the past, if you paid more than your dues amount, anything extra was considered a donation to LWVDV. In the new system, everything you pay as dues is split by LWV, LWVC and LWVDV. Therefore, if you want to make a donation directly to LWVDV in addition to your dues, please make a donation (see Making Donations below), instead of paying more than the $75 recommended dues amount.

You will have the option to make a direct donation to LWVDV when paying your dues, or you can donate directly to us on the Donate page on our website.
All donations to LWVDV are fully tax-deductible, whether made on the LWV Member Portal or directly from our site.

Renewing Your Membership

You will receive an email reminder to renew one year after your last renewal, with a link to renew on the LWV Member Portal.

If you have signed up for auto-renew, you will get a reminder that your membership is automatically renewing.

Membership in the League of Women Voters of Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Area includes membership in the national and state Leagues. Your dues support the critical work of all three (20% to HHI-BA, 47% to SC State League, 33% to the National League). Starting in 2025, membership dues for all Leagues will be pay-what-you-can. The recommended dues rate for all Leagues across the country is $75. The minimum dues rate is $20. Because your dues payment is technically three payments – one to your local League, one to your state League, and one to the National League – it will show up on your credit card statement as three payments

Important News: Changes in the LWV membership system

Effective Feb 3, 2025, the League of Women Voters has transitioned to a new membership platform called ChapterSpot. Members are now able to log in and update their own member information and renew online.

Your email address will be your user name for ChapterSpot and each member must have a unique email address. If you don't use the internet to join or renew, you can continue to fill out a downloadable form, write checks for your dues payments and your League's roster manager can continue to input your information to the roster as needed.

Dues are pay-what-you-can. The recommended dues rate is $75, but you can pay any amount more than that, or any amount less than that to a minimum of $20.

Dues are now allocated as follows: Local League 20%, State League 47% and LWVUS 33%. There is an option to make a contribution directly to your Local League. 100% of that donation will go to your League.

How can I pay? If you pay online, the preferred payment method is ACH, which requires typing in the numbers at the bottom of a check. This has the lowest fees and maximizes the amount of money going toward League work. The secondary option is to pay online by credit/debit card, which has higher fees. It will also still be possible to pay by check as needed.

What's gone? There are no household memberships or student memberships.

When will I be asked to renew? A year from your last payment. You'll receive a reminder before then. There is an option to have your membership auto-renew.
