The League of Women Voters Utica/Rome Metro Area is seeking nominations of high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from Oneida and Herkimer Counties for the 23rd annual Students Inside Albany conference.

THE PROBLEM
Our state constitution does not protect all of us. We need a constitution with broad protections for every New Yorker.
The current New York State Constitution fails to prohibit discrimination against groups who have been historically targeted, including those with disabilities, LGBTQI+ individuals, immigrants, women, and pregnant people.
We must pass an equal rights amendment worthy of the 21st century that protects us all.

WASHINGTON – Today, the League of Women Voters and Fair Elections Center released the following statements after the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for the Moore v. Harper case: 

"The Independent State Legislature Theory is a dangerous, fringe ideology that has massive implications for the future of our democracy,"

The League of Women Voters of the United States and League chapters from all 50 states and the District of Columbia filed an amicus brief in the Moore v. Harper case before the Supreme Court. The case concerns the so-called “independent state legislature theory” (ISLT), which, if adopted, would have far-reaching implications for the future of American democracy.
