WASHINGTON – Today League of Women Voters CEO Virginia Kase issued the following statement in response to the administration's firing of Chris Krebs, director of the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA):
“The League of Women Voters is deeply concerned at the untimely firing of Chris Krebs, a dedicated public servant, whose leadership and dedication to safeguarding our votes led to successful, free, and fair elections in 2020.
“The security of American elections is not a partisan issue and should never be politicized. The public servants at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) should be commended for their work to protect our election systems. These dedicated security experts work all year to combat threats to our democratic process. The success of our 2020 elections is a testament to their work and dedication.
“In the leadup to the 2020 election, the League of Women Voters worked closely with CISA staff to mitigate mis and disinformation on social media. Their expertise and guidance helped the League and our 750 chapters around the country counter falsehoods about our election and provide trusted, accurate information to voters.
“We commend Mr. Krebs and the staff of CISA for their hard work to safeguard our votes and ensure American elections are safe from cyber-attacks.”
