New York’s governor currently has sole power to appoint a new lieutenant governor when a vacancy occurs. This program will consider whether there should be additional checks on that power. It will also analyze other reform issues raised by recent events involving gubernatorial succession. For more background, the New York State Bar Association released this report on gubernatorial succession and the Fordham Law School Rule of Law Clinic released this report.
