A Guide to Conserving Open Space
Open space is essential for our mental and physical health. While Belmont once had lots of open space, gradually the population has increased, the farms have disappeared, and houses and business centers have taken their place. In 2009, the Belmont League of Women Voters decided to study the situation. After 3 1/2 years of research, we produced a pamphlet that tells you what open space still exists in Belmont, where it is, and how it can be preserved.
Survey of the Senior Population of Belmont (2005)
In 2004, the Belmont League conducted a survey of Belmont residents over the age of 60. The survey had three objectives:
- Obtain a portrait of the senior population,
- Identify the services these seniors need and would like to see made available in town, and
- Learn about the different types of programs and activities seniors already take part in and the additional programs they would like to see offered.
Based on the 1,219 responses received, the Belmont League compiled a report entitled: Survey of the Senior Population of Belmont. A comparison between the data collected and the 2000 U.S. Census figures for Belmont on age, gender and education supports the validity of the information collected and presented in this report.
