The League of Women Voters of Sussex County will be holding a luncheon for its annual meeting at Peninsula Golf and Country Club on May 31st. The guest speaker will be Mike Dixon who will discuss the history of the suffrage movement.
The title of Mr. Dixon's presentations is: "Voters at Last: Battling for the Ballot". This lively program presents the history of the expansion of suffrage and lays out arguments made by both sides. Particular attention is paid to women's suffrage at a time when Delaware was on the front line of the controversial debate.
Mr. Dixon holds graduate degrees in history and behavioral science. He teaches as an adjunct professor of history at a number of area universities and colleges. For over four decades he has worked to encourage public interest and participation in preservation of the past.
This program has been made possible by a grant from the DE Humanities a state program of the National Endowment for the humanities. www.dehumanities.org.
