The League of Women Voters (LWV), a nonpartisan organization, encourages the informed and
active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and
advocacy. It is political in that we take action on public policy positions established through member
study and agreement. The League never supports or opposes any political party or any candidate.
The LWV believes that members should be encouraged to seek and accept elective or appointive
office in government. However, at the same time, board members recognize that, as a result of their
close identification with the League, they have a special responsibility to see that their activities do
not create a partisan impression or compromise the nonpartisan policy of the individual board
member’s League. Therefore, the LWV of the Utica-Rome Metropolitan Area adheres to the
