Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking

Carl J. Boykin, in his present position as Director of Human Trafficking Prevention at the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services in Albany, New York, will speak about Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking on March 26, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. at the Unitarian-Universalist Church, 10 Higby Road, Utica. Human trafficking is a $150 billion dollar criminal enterprise worldwide.

This program is free and open to the public, sponsored by the Upper Mohawk Valley chapter of the United Nations Association. Refreshments will be served. 

Boykin received a master’s degree in education in 1985 from SUNY Buffalo and a law degree from Cornell University in 1988. He was appointed Special Deputy Attorney General for Guns and Gangs in 2007 for the State of New York Office of the Attorney General.  Boykin’s work history includes the New York State Court of Appeals, the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division, the Oneida County District Attorney's Office in Utica, and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Syracuse, as well as the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, Inc.

A 1983 Colgate graduate, in his senior year Boykin’s football career included two NCAA awards for his performance at free safety: NCAA honorable mention Division I-AA All American, and honorable mention All-East Division 1-AA. Boykin clinched several conference titles in the hurdles for Colgate’s indoor and outdoor track teams. A Utica native, Mr. Boykin excelled in many sports for Utica schools.
