Observer Corps

WHAT IS THE OBSERVER CORPS?

The Observer Corps is a group of League of Women of Marblehead (LWVM) members who attend meetings of various town boards and committees in an effort to promote transparency in local government. This is a way the LWVM can stay informed on local government activities and Observer corp buttondecisions that relate to League positions.  Observer reports are available to the public on the LWVM website and Facebook page, and are sent to The Marblehead Reporter on a regular basis to help citizens stay informed on town government.PDF icon  (Read comments from  citizens and local press about the relevance of observer reports in the community.

CONSIDER JOINING THE OBSERVER CORPS

As an observer, you will attend meetings either in person or on-line.  You are there as an observer, not a participant.  Observers are not spokespersons for the LWVM but attend to watch and report back to the League.  Training is provided to Observer Corps volunteers.  You can also work as a team to share the responsibilities of attendance and reporting.

Currently we are in need of Observers for:

  • Affordable Housing Committee

  • People interested in sharing a committee assignment with any of our current observers.  This is a good way to learn the ropes by partnering with a veteran observer.
  • People interested in covering a board/committee not already being observed.

  • To be a member of the Observer Corps you must be a member of the League of Women Voters of Marblehead.  New members are always welcome and joining is easy!

More information about the various town boards and committees can be found on the town website:  www.marblehead.org/boards
