Honor Dr. Martin Luther King by Acting to Protect Democracy!

Faced with an election year in which the fate of our democracy may well be on the line, many of us may feel both frightened and unsure – what can WE do to help Make Democracy Work® in our country? But the thing is, you don’t have to be a Martin Luther King or a John Lewis to make a difference.

As Marion Wright Edelman once wrote in her beautiful meditation I Care And I Am Willing To Serve

I cannot preach like Martin Luther King, Jr. or turn a poetic phrase like Maya Angelou but I care and I am willing to serve.

Honor Dr. King’s legacy and renew your vows to keep standing up for democracy by joining with like minded folks from around the country for one of the many virtual events honoring his memory and reminding of us of what WE must do to work for passage of the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. When we see that we are not alone – and promise to work in the presence of others, we can find that not only do we care, but we are “willing to serve.”

The Declaration for American Democracy Coalition, of which the League of Women Voters is a member, has organized many Martin Luther King Day of Action events. Use the blue button below to register for one that fits your schedule.
