Monterey County's Cannabis Industry - Up In Smoke, Wednesday, November 9

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 - 12:00pm

The League of Women Voters of Monterey County will present a free talk titled: "Monterey County's Cannabis Industry - Up In Smoke" at a live-streamed General Meeting at noon on Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

The  Monterey County Civil Grand Jury provides oversight to ensure that efficient and honest government is operating in the best interest of the people. This year the Grand Jury released a report outlining multiple examples of regulatory dysfunction in the county’s cannabis industry oversight, accounting and economic tracking. It criticizes the county for lapses in transparency, organization and analysis of its cannabis industry.

Our speaker is the Foreperson of the 2021-2022 Grand Jury, Tom Wiley.  He is a retired fire captain who lives in Royal Oaks and decided to apply because “public service is in my blood.” In 1974 Tom was hired by Watsonville Fire Department and promoted through the ranks to retire in 2003 as a Fire Prevention Captain/Fire Investigator. As foreperson, he spent as many as 40 hours a week on his grand jury volunteer responsibilities, along with 14 other citizen jurors.

All current LWVMC members will be sent a link to the Zoom meeting. Non-members can send a message to LWVmryco [at] gmail.com requesting an invitation.

This talk will be recorded and posted on the LWVMC website (under Videos): lwvmryco.org
