This month’s “Major Leaguer” is Mary Ann Lill-Clous, part of our extraordinary Membership team.

Mary Ann was raised in Bensenville and is one of eight children! A DuPage resident for most of her life, she and her husband Tony Clous have lived in Bloomingdale since 2018. She worked at AT&T for 11 years and UPS for 18 years and has been building her Mary Kay business for 38 years.

1) How did you hear about the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale?
As a makeup consultant, I help others be as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside. I was working at a vendor show in Bensenville in 2020 and I met an Elmhurst League member. She told me about the League of Women Voters. I looked online and quickly joined the Roselle-Bloomingdale chapter.

2) Was there a particular issue or situation that prompted you to join League?
I lived for 20 years in Cook County. Politics used to make me very angry and I will admit that I chose to ignore the whole subject for a long time.  Then 2016 happened and I couldn't be quiet anymore.  Unfortunately, it took till 2020 for me to find out what to do.

3) What other community activities have you been involved in?

Although I was not politically active before joining League, I have always given blood and I was in the church choir when I lived in Melrose Park. I love to dance, mostly ballroom dancing, but I like lots of different dancing styles.  My husband and I enjoy disc golf, bike riding, walking and we like to play board games.

4) What are your individual goals as a League member?
I want to become much more informed and help other people to vote.  One of my roles for the League is to call members to remind them of important events so we get a good turnout.  I've participated in events that encourage voting and joining the League.

5)  What is your favorite thing about being with the LWV?

I’m not sure if I was surprised or just pleased when I was told the league is non-partisan, but I really enjoy this non-partisanship. I don't want to hear only from people who I agree with.

I've also really enjoyed meeting and working with people who are so knowledgeable and passionate about the issues that we are facing right now. Whenever we are together, I have a good time, but I especially enjoy the forums, encouraging young people to vote and the book club.
