League of Women Voters Solano Elects Officers at Annual Meeting
The League of Women Voters Solano County (LWVSC) held its Annual Meeting on June 1, 2023, electing a slate of officers and approving program priorities for 2023-2024. The hybrid meeting was attended by over 50% of our active members. Members attended the meeting at the Solano Community Health Hub in the Fairfield Solano Mall and via Zoom.
The membership approved the following
Board Members: President Carole Paterson, Secretary Leslie Lessenger, and Board Directors Craig Paterson, Janice Adams, Barbara King, and KC Nash. Also serving on the board from previously staggered terms will be Vice President Rami Muth, Treasurer Judy Potter, and Directors Alice Fried and Sarah Chapman.
The Nominating Committee for the board elections included Janice Adams, Ali Desiderio, and David Pratt.
Membership also approved our four program priorities for 2023-2024:

- Racial Inclusiveness/Justice/Equity
- Making Democracy Work—Voter Rights and Education
- Climate Change—Focus on Water
- Criminal Justice
The meeting emphasized the benefit of collaborating and entering into partnerships with organizations and agencies that share the league’s primary goal of empowering through education and advocacy, a strategy to promote understanding of how government works, thereby increasing citizen engagement in public policy issues and solutions.
These included the collaborative work between Solano County Office of Education’s Solano Youth Coalition (SYC) and the Solano League with a presentation of its Democracy Matters, LWVSC Civics Education Program, winner of the 2023 California League Making Democracy Work award. Speakers included Alice Fried, creator and leader of our award-winning Democracy Matters program along with administrators of the Solano Youth Coalition (SYC), Rebecca Floyd and Johanna Nowak-Palmer.
The strategy is also reflected in the recent partnership with the Solano County Community Health Hub Wellness Program to offer an opportunity as well as a venue to extend Civics education programs and voter services activities to more Solano residents.
