Governor Josh Green was the keynote speaker at the League of Women Voters statewide Convention on May 20, 2023, held at the beautiful Hawai`i Job Corps campus in Waimanalo. Governor Green gave a frank and hopeful talk highlighting the accomplishments of his administration thus far, including the measures that were funded by the legislature this year. He also talked about what he would like to accomplish in the future, including his priorities of assisting homeless people and the need for low-cost housing, as well as solving the issues of medical coverage for all.
Judge Daniel Foley (ret.), chair of the House Commission to Improve Standards of Conduct, updated attendees on the outcome of the bills proposed by the CISC (on which our long-time member Janet Mason represented the League) and what organizations like the League can do to restore faith in democracy. (Shown below with LWV Hawaii President Donna Oba)
This was the final state-wide meeting presided over by Donna Oba in her productive term as President. The Hawai`i members of the League give profound thanks for her excellent service and are grateful that she will continue to be an active member.
The Hawai`i Job Corps training center in Waimanalo hosted this statewide LWV Convention. Its excellent culinary arts program provided a delicious gourmet lunch. Julie Dugan, who has served on the Board of Directors for the LWV of Hawai`i, is the Executive Director of the Hawai`i Job Corps. We would like all members of the League to be aware of the opportunities that the Hawai`i Job Corps provides to our community:
