The League of Women Voters of Sussex County, Delaware, and the Rehoboth Film Society are proud to host the fundraising event "Defending Democracy: Then and Now," a compilation of films in celebration of Women's History Month.
The events, held at the Cinema Art Theatre, will start at 6:00 pm with a reception including wine and refreshments. The films will begin at approximately 6:45 and will be followed by a panel discussion. This celebration of women is not for women only! Join us for the event and help support your local League of Women Voters.
The four films will last 80 minutes and consist of: “Ida B. Wells - The Light of Truth,” “Inez Milholland: Forward into Light,” “Suppressed and Sabotaged: the Fight to Vote" and “Deciding Vote.” After the films, there will be a panel discussion.
The films touch on the U.S history of women’s efforts to gain and protect the right to vote. From the role of iconic suffragists like Ida B. Wells and Inez Milholland, to the example of contemporary legislators choosing conscience over ideology to protect women’s reproductive rights, to the current battle against voter suppression, this special event will enlighten and encourage patrons to treasure and exercise their right to vote.
