NewsErica Smitka, who has served as our Deputy Director for the past several years, is our new Executive Director! The LWVNYS Board has reached this decision after an exhaustive three-month search. Many of you have worked with Erica on any number of issues -- the NY ERA taskforce, Redistricting, Issues and Advocacy, Lobby Day and, of course, LWVUS Convention—just to name a few. Erica is also well known to our good government partners and will be an asset in building coalitions. We feel confident that Erica’s strengths and abilities will lead the NYS League forward.
Laura Ladd Bierman retired June 21st of this year. She left us a well-oiled League, united with a vibrant and engaged membership. Many of us have been lucky to have worked with Laura since her arrival in 2008. Thinking back to where we were then and where we are now, it’s like night and day. Laura and Erica have worked well together with mutual respect these last few years and I know that Laura wishes Erica great success as our new Executive Director.
