This webinar addresses the issue of hate crime legislation and its status in South Carolina.  Did you know that South Carolina is one of only two US states that has not passed a Hate Crimes law? These laws provide enhanced penalties for crimes driven by bias based on characteristics including race, religion, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.  Learn why we don't yet have a law on the books, prospects are for passing legislation, and what we can do as advocates.

Our speaker, Brandon Fish, is Director of Community Relations at the Charleston Jewish Federation and was a founder of the Stamp Out Hate SC Coalition. He plays an active role with groups across the state who've come together to educate voters and advocate for hate crime legislation. To date, The Clementa C. Pinckney Hate Crimes Act continues to be introduced and gain traction, even passing twice in the SC House.  But it has never passed the State Senate.

This nonpartisan event is open to the public.  Please RSVP on this page to receive the Zoom link.
