LWV Hudson Supports Levy for Library

Hudson Library

The League of Women Voters of Hudson recently conducted a study of the Hudson Library and Historical Society and has found it to be a well-run, fiscally responsible, dynamic library.  Based on this study, the League is endorsing the library levy which will be on the ballot on May 6.

The current levy which was passed five years ago makes up 70% of the library’s operating budget.  It is important to note that the library’s tax levy has not increased in ten years.  The remainder of the library’s funding comes from donations (5%) and the Ohio Public Library Fund (25%) which has been dramatically cut due to recent budget changes.  The May 6 levy is crucial to the library’s continued success.  With this levy the annual cost to the taxpayer will be approximately $78 annually per $100,000 of home value, a small price tag when you consider all the services the library provides.

Recently named “best library” in Northeast Ohio by the Parents’ Choice Awards, the library is continually evaluating and updating its resources to meet the needs of the community.  Not just a repository for books and printed material, it is a mecca for technology, educational resources and community programs. In addition to a stellar library, we are lucky to have the historical society where documents and artifacts are readily available to the public.

The library is the cornerstone of the community and in order for it to continue to provide and improve integral services, adequate funding is necessary.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization that believes voting is the core of our democracy.  Its mission is to work to protect voters’ rights and encourage active participation in our government through education and advocacy.
