Gov. DeWine Selects Jon Husted as Ohio Senator Replacing JD Vance

Gov. Mike DeWine announced his own Lt. Gov. Jon Husted as the next senator from Ohio, passing over entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. “Jon Husted will be right at home in the United States Senate, and he’ll be at home on day one,” DeWine said January 17 in a press conference at the statehouse in Columbus.

Gov. DeWine Signs Over 30 Bills

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed nearly 30 bills Wednesday, including legislation that would require schools to notify parents if the child identifies as LGBTQ+ as well as allow parents to opt out of so-called “sexuality” content. The GOP denies it is homophobic, saying it’s just a way for parents to stay informed.

State Reps. D.J. Swearingen, R-Huron, and Sara Carruthers, R-Hamilton, introduced House Bill 8, which requires schools and teachers to notify parents about any changes to their child’s mental, physical, or emotional being — including if they identify as LGBTQ+.

Take Action for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)  The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) issued a statement recently, asking President Biden to publish the Equal Rights Amendment before his term ends. The ERA, which will update the U.S. Constitution to protect the equality of rights under the law regardless of sex, “can be added to the Constitution with one action,” according to the statement. “With just months left in office, we are urging President Biden to act to ensure that the ERA is published.”
