LWV Hudson's Climate Crisis and Environmental Sustainability Committee 

This committee researches, plans and organizes workshops and events that inform the public about Climate Change, Adaptation Planning, Public Health, Emergency Response and Land Development issues.  They monitor and update information on wetlands, watersheds,  water quality, and wastewater management issues.  They also help monitor local government meetings whose actions impact the environment.

Upcoming:

“Best Practices for the Yard” to be held on May 1, 2024 at the Hudson High School Media Center will cover the steps individuals can take to create sustainable yards that support the local ecosystem and fight climate change. Local experts, including an arborist and a Summit Metro Parks naturalist, will share sustainable yard practices such as using native plants and trees, avoiding fertilizers and pesticides, and using electric equipment.  For the Sustainable Yard Toolkit discussed at the meeting, click HERE.

"Energy in the Home”  on April 18, 2024 at Hudson High School Media Center covered solar panels, heat pumps, and energy efficiency and conservation measures such as energy audits. It also included insulation and Energy Star appliances, and habits for reducing energy use. Hudson community members who have had personal experience making these changes shared their experiences with participants, as well as pros and cons and lessons learned. The Hudson Context", Sept 6, 2023 Hudson High School Media Center covered:

  •  Current climate change realities facing us as individuals and facing Hudson as a city 
  • The city of Hudson's energy portfolio
  • Hudson City Schools' sustainability initiatives from Phil Butto, treasurer and CFO for Hudson City Schools
  • Status of suggested Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory for Hudson
  • Hudson's Green Building Certification program
  • Actions that individuals can take and request of our community's decision makers to address climate change

"What Can We Learn From Others About Tackling Climate Threats?" Apri 12, 2023, 7-9pm Hudson High School Media Center.
