As we celebrate the spirit of the Fourth of July, we are reminded that our nation's independence was built on the belief that people have both the right and the responsibility to shape their government. Democracy is not a one-day celebration—it is something we strengthen every day through participation, education, and civic engagement. We the People, the opening phrase of the preamble to the Constitution, reminds us of the collective role each of us plays in the protection and growth of these essential ideals.
With election season approaching, the League of Women Voters is preparing for one of our most important years yet. Our focus will be on voter education, voter registration, and providing trusted candidate and informational forums so every voter has the resources they need to make informed decisions.
At a time when voter suppression efforts continue to threaten equal access to the ballot, our work has never been more essential. Every conversation, every volunteer hour, every registration completed, and every informed voter helps build a stronger democracy.
There is a place for everyone in this work. Whether you have an hour a month or can make a larger commitment, your talents can make a difference. Be sure to be in the lookout for our Volunteer Democracy Café menu, where you'll find a variety of meaningful opportunities, small and large—to support voter engagement in ways that fit your schedule and interests.
Won't you join us in this important work? Together, we can ensure that every voice is heard, every voter is informed, and every eligible citizen has the opportunity to participate in our democracy. We hope you will subscribe to our new Substack, Facts Matter. This League of Women Voters Solano series will help you navigate the flood of information you receive and discern verified facts from made-up fiction. Sign up at www.factsmattersolano.substack.com and you’ll receive two editions per month—every second and fourth Friday. It’s free! Our goal is to encourage all registered voters to head into the midterm elections confident and informed. The series begins Friday, July 14th. Read it and share it with your family and friends.
